Thought I'd best pop in a photo of Munich. As you may know I'm not a huge fan of living in Munich. But I am however truly appreciative of just how lucky we are to have this opportunity to live in Europe (although it seems that an English speaking, non German country was out of the question. In hindsight I would have taken Trieste over Munich, I know it's not an English speaking country, but it is Italy! Hmmm, I'm going to relocate my family from Australia to Europe. I can choose Germany or Italy. Germany it is. Germany? Seriously? Oh come on! Well we can't all have what we want can we! Having a little dig and private joke with my husband - you know I love you!). So, Munich may not be my favourite place, but there are a few things that are great about living here.

For me, one of them is the architecture. Our neighbourhood, Neuhausen, is located in the north west of the city. It has some wonderful old homes and some pretty impressive mansions. Schloss Nymphenburg, which was the summer palace for the ruling family, with its long canal and beautiful parkland is about a 10 min stroll from our place.  We also have a great shopping area with a small ''department store'' and market place. With a short walk to either the tram or the train, we are only about 10 minutes from the city. In days gone by it used to be a pretty funky/arty place to live and every now and then you bump into some pretty funky/arty looking people who obviously think it's still a cool place to live! In summer its streets are lined with lush greenery and its quite an oasis. We have a big swimming centre not too far away which is great for the kids and some parks where we can go and kick a ball around or play a bit of summer cricket. All in all not a bad place to live! (If only the school was just a bit closer, but as I said, we can't all have what we want, can we!! *note, I know what you're thinking, why didn't we live closer to the school? Long story, but the short of it is that I couldn't bare the thought of living in a village in Germany!)

But back to the photo, I wish I could say that this apartment building is the one we live in.  No ours isn't even half as beautiful, but its not far from us and I love to go for walks and check out all the glorious ''old dames'' in our neighbourhood. I will post some more photos of our neighbourhood over the next few months. Now that spring is slowly on its way, the area is starting to 'pretty up' and not look so boring and brown as it does for about 7 months of the year!  I took this photo in autumn and look at that glorious blue sky. Autumn and summer are very pretty months of the year here and a great time to pick to visit (hint hint).

I know I said I would post one favourite a day, but I couldn't help it, I had to post some more photos of the neighbourhood from last Autumn:

Oh, and you know what? Spring is pretty good too. Could also be a great time to visit (hint, hint!). Will post some spring photos soon.

It's been a lot of fun, a lot of not so much fun and a lot of interesting stuff in between the fun and not so much fun...hmmm, i'm not making much sense. All in all a great journey and we still have some more adventures planned for our last year here. Can't wait to get home though. Love your blog, it's like a breath of fresh air. Alison xx
